Frequently Asked Questions

Will you keep me updated on my child’s progress/suitability for the 11+?

I provide regular feedback to parents on the progress of their child and provide tips for you to help with their learning at home.

What will you teach my child?

The way Advance Tutoring sessions are structured means that your child will receive a solid grounding in core Numeracy and Literacy skills.  They will also develop strategies for problem-solving and reasoning about numbers and build up a wide vocabulary through exposure to recommended reading texts.

Will homework be given?

Homework will be given on a regular basis as I feel it serves to reinforce the work your child has completed in that session. It enables your child to practise new skills and consolidate their learning and is a vital part of the progress. It is not meant to be a chore but rather a reinforcement of the day’s learning and an aid to increased self-confidence.

Do you have a DBS certificate?

Yes, I have an enhanced DBS certificate.

How often will my child need to attend?

Your child will be expected to attend two sessions per week each lasting one hour. The first session is English focused and the second session is maths.

Do you run mock tests?

I run mock tests during the summer term so that your child gets used to exam conditions and the time constraints for completing papers. All tests are marked and assessed and we go through any corrections to ensure they understand where errors have occurred and this helps them learn from their mistakes.
